Five on Friday: Racism Is a Public Health Threat
We’ve arrived at Friday, at last! For those of us with a Saturday/Sunday weekend, you may be eager to head out the door. Before you do, take a look at the some of the interesting articles that MCN staff shared among each other this week – maybe there’s something you missed.
Leslie recommended, “Racism is a Public Health Threat, According to the CDC Director.”
Amy shared, “‘This Is Environmental Racism’: How a Protest in a North Carolina Farming Town Sparked a National Movement,” from the Washington Post.
Kaethe offered, “Migrant Children Are Being Held in Toxic US Detention Centers,” from Grist.
Karen wanted to raise awareness of the CDC's announcements of World Chagas Disease Day (which was April 14), and World Malaria Day (April 25).
Weekly Win: There were many wins this week. One that was shared a few times within the MCN staff was the US Health and Human Services announcement of increased health care coverage and access to preventative care in rural areas to improve maternal health outcomes, which coincided with the start of Black Maternal Health Week. Read the Axios article, “White House Issues First-Ever Proclamation on Black Maternal Health.”
Have a safe and healthy weekend!
