Five on Friday: Top Five Blog Posts of 2024
It’s 2025! Every year, we provide you with over a hundred blog posts on new resources, perspectives, information, and more – and we’re looking forward to doing more in 2025. What topics do you want us to cover? What do you like best on the blog? Let me know: cseda@migrantclinician.org. For this week’s Five on Friday, we took a look back at 2024 to find our top five blog posts of the year based on the number of reads – here they are!
5. 40 Years of Health Justice for Migrants and Immigrants. Time to Celebrate! In 2024, we celebrated our 40th anniversary, and we invited our readers to support our work... which was, surprisingly, our fifth most popular post of the year!
4. Common Immigration Narratives and Their Distressing Effect This post from May, although written in the context of election rhetoric, is unfortunately still very relevant. Dr. Weingarten refutes common false assertions with data to back her up and recommends a new narrative, and ways to respond to anti-immigrant rhetoric.
3. Verónica Martínez Vargas: A Dreamer Reaches Her Dream of Becoming a Clinician Good news made it to the top of the list! Our third most popular post celebrated MCN colleague and DACA recipient, Verónica, as she graduated her studies to become a Physician Assistant!
2. Words Matter: The Health Impact of Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric and Policies, and What Clinicians Can Do This blog post, another from Dr. Kaethe Weingarten and the Words Matter series, breaks down how rhetoric can affect the health of immigrants and migrants, and gives practical advice to clinicians to stay aware and build perspective to better serve patients.
1. Avian Flu on Dairy Farms: What Clinicians and Dairy Worker Patients Need to Know This Q&A with Jeff Bender, DVM, MS, DACVPM, a public health expert and veterinarian, published just 12 days after avian flu was discovered among dairy herds, provided much-needed background and insight, and practical advice for clinicians, as avian flu began to ramp up in 2024. Its information continues to be helpful to contextualize the crisis and point to the importance of focusing on education and safety for dairy workers as the crisis wears on.
Have a safe and healthy weekend!
