This session will provide an overview of the changes in patient population seen at federally funded health centers across the country and the public policies that may affect health seeking processes for migrant workers and their families. Each speaker has expertise at the national and regional level. The session will provide valuable resources to health center staff to better understand the immigration policies affecting their communities and patients.

As the Chief Program Officer, International and Emerging Issues for Migrant Clinicians Network, Deliana Garcia (she/her/ella) has dedicated more than thirty years to the health and wellness needs of migrant and other underserved immigrant populations. Throughout her career she has worked in the areas of reproductive health, sexual and intimate partner violence, access to primary care, and infectious disease control and prevention. Garcia is responsible for the development and expansion of Health Network, an international bridge case management and patient navigation system to make available across international borders the health records of migrants diagnosed with infectious and chronic diseases. She has served as the Principal Investigator or member of the research team for a number of studies addressing topics, such as sexual and intimate partner violence prevention among Latino migrant and immigrant families, trauma in transit for migrants crossing international borders, and emotionally-charged dialogue between patients and health care providers.

Roger Rosenthal, an attorney, is the longtime Executive Director of the Migrant Legal Action Program (MLAP), a non-profit non-governmental support and advocacy center located in Washington, DC.  MLAP represents the interests of and is a voice for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families and immigrants and their families nationwide.  Mr. Rosenthal is nationally recognized for his presentations regarding U.S. immigration policy.  He has delivered workshops on this topic at international, national, regional, state, and local conferences, including all the migrant stream health forums and the national migrant health conference.
