October 27, 2008 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Children’s Health Protection and Environmental Education (OCHPEE) has recognized the Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) as one of 12 honorees to receive the 2008 Children’s Environmental Health Champion Award for outstanding commitment to protecting children from environmental health risks.
MCN was honored for its education outreach to more than 800 migrant farm workers and their families about environmental hazards and ways to minimize exposure. The effort, which took place in 2007 and 2008, was in partnership with the Virginia Eastern Shore Migrant Head Start office.
The Children’s Environmental Health Champion Award was accepted by Amy Liebman, MCN Director of Environmental and Occupational Health and Director of MCN’s Salisbury, Maryland office, at a ceremony on October 22 at the Churchill Hotel in Washington D.C.
“MCN is honored to receive a Children’s Environmental Health Champion Award,” said Liebman. “This year’s winners all demonstrate strong commitment to children’s environmental health, and MCN is proud to be recognized for our dedication and leadership in children’s environmental health.”
The MCN program was implemented by a team of MCN staffers based in the EPA’s Region 3 which serves Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
