The climate crisis is the megaphone of inequities: it amplifies preexisting vulnerabilities and bears down the hardest on those already struggling.
In Puerto Rico, we have seen again and again that isolated members of our communities – due to geographic remoteness, language, culture, immigration status, poverty, medical issues, or social disconnection – are unaccounted for after climate-fueled disasters.
Children in these isolated, low-income, underserved communities are especially vulnerable as these climate disasters impact their education, health, and safety.
You can reduce the impact that climate disasters have in perpetuating poverty and other inequities by donating to Migrant Clinicians Network.
Your donations provide environmental education for middle and secondary students from isolated communities in Puerto Rico. Children learn about health and safety issues related to the environment and disaster preparedness to raise awareness and increase knowledge, followed by activities to foster critical thinking and problem solving, and ultimately move toward decision-making, action, and stewardship -- to further build community disaster preparedness.
