December’s colder and longer nights encourage a few more minutes of reading with a cup of tea by the fire. Why not incorporate some health justice readings into those couch cuddles? Don’t forget -- this weekend is your last change to make much-needed comments on the changes to public charge rules. (Not sure what to say? A few staff members have you covered, with their recommendations below.) Read these five recommendations from MCN staff, and enjoy your weekend!

Candace, Specialist in Clinical Systems and Women’s Health, said: “I came across a good resource for guidance on providing comments on the proposed public charge rules and finally submitted my comments. Please take a look, edit, and submit your comments by Dec. 10.”

Lasz, Co-Chief Medical Officer, sent around the American Academy of Family Physicians’ letter opposing the changes to public charge. (You’ve probably already seen it by now, but MCN also put out a position statement on the proposed changes.)

Claire, Writer and Editor, noted that the newly released Fourth National Climate Assessment is available in Spanish.

Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, shared the excellent Pump Handle article, “Looking at “Shift Work” as a Challenge (or Opportunity) to Better Manage Diabetes.”

Jillian, Director of Education and Communication: “This study would be interesting to read more fully. The researchers look at the totality of healthcare (ie chronic as well as infectious) to calculate the total impact of migrants on health.” Here’s an article on the study: “Migrants don't bring disease. In fact, they help fight it, report says.”
