Five on Friday | February 12, 2016
Happy Anniversary, Five on Friday! It was a year ago this week that we began to send out our weekly recommendations from staff. What recommendation in the last year do you remember most? Here are just a few of the articles that we have been reading in the office this week.
1. Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, sent around Farmworker Association of Florida’s Letter to the Editor about pesticide drift in the Orlando Sentinel.
2. Ileana enjoyed listening to this week’s Diane Rehm show on improving doctor-patient communication in a digital world.
3. Ricardo, Health Network Manager, reminded us about the other deadly disease linked to the Zika virus: Guillain-Barre syndrome.
4. Claire, Writer & Editor, appreciated the Health Care Climate Council’s response to the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the Clean Power Plan. The reductions in emissions from the Clean Power Plan, says the council, would help prevent “up to 3,600 premature deaths per year and provide important health protections to communities disproportionately impacted by unsafe air and water.”
5. Theressa recommends reading and sharing Million Hearts’ news and events celebrating February as America Heart Month.
Bonus, ICYMI: An AP story on protecting workers from pesticides featured a picture of our pesticide comic books, and the photo was printed in local papers around the country. Did you see it?
Have a lovely and love-filled weekend!
