This week, Homero Segovia, Migrant Clinicians Network’s Health Network Associate, tragically lost his life in a car accident. We at Migrant Clinicians Network struggled to keep working with the weight of this massive loss upon us. The trouble is, the work keeps piling up; all the momentum in the world of health justice hasn’t stopped (which, we know, is a positive thing). Next week, we will offer a blog post to commemorate Homero and his work at MCN. For now, here are some happenings in migrant health.

1. Ileana, Senior Advisor for Scientific and Strategic Planning, recommended an October 13th webinar offered by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Public Health Association: Racism and its Impact on Children’s Health by AAP & APHA.

2. Claire, Writer and Editor, recommends this Houston Chronicle op-ed by our friends at Nuestro Texas, on the health disparities for Latinas in Texas, and the appalling case of Blanca Borrego, who was arrested at the gynecologist's office for presenting false identification: “Reproductive health care should be treated as a fundamental human right in our state.” We agree.

3. Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, read Farmworker Justice’s critique and summary, plus great statistics, offered in this blog post on the Migration Policy Institute briefing.  

4. Ricardo, Health Network Manager, saw that Gary Cohen won a 2015 MacArthur Genius Award. Cohen is cofounder of Practice Greenhealth, which provides a toolkit on how to reduce a health clinic’s carbon footprint. 

5. Candace, Specialist in Clinical Systems & Women’s Health, notified us of HRSA’s National Health Service Corps Virtual Job Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 20th.
