MCN Weekly Round-Up | March 6, 2015

Is it Friday, already? Here are some great updates on migrant health and beyond, sent by staff members at MCN. We hope you enjoy them.

Jillian Issue BriefFrom Jillian, Director of Professional Development and Communications: the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership released a new issue brief that explores the benefits of medical-legal partnerships in health centers.

Jillian also recommends signing up for Farmworker Justice Immigration Updates, from an MCN partner nonprofit, Farmworker Justice. Their coverage and summaries of the immigration debate in Washington, like this week’s Department of Homeland Security averted shutdown, are easy to read and important.

Candace, Specialist in Clinical Systems and Women’s Health, sent along “an updated statement from the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommending improved access to perinatal care services for unauthorized immigrant women. It includes a good summary of literature on the subject.”

From Claire, Writer and Editor: “Researchers from the CDC released some interesting data on the importance of continuity of care for patients with HIV. HIVPlus nicely summarized the research.”

Theressa, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator, reminded us: “It’s National Nutrition Month!”

The deadline is fast approaching for the National Center for Farmworker Health’s 2015 Migrant Health Scholarship, for Community/Migrant Health Center staff of clinical, administrative, and ancillary disciplines to further their educational goals.

Jennie, Specialist in Child and Migrant Health and Bioethics, forwarded an article on physician burnout. Jennie also forwarded on a resource from the CDC on health equity.

Did you miss our recent webinars? The first two installments of our series for community health workers conducted in Spanish are now archived.

Finally, Tiffy, our graphic designer, would like to ask our blog readers to review MCN on the GreatNonprofits website. It will help increase our visibility as a nonprofit and encourage others to donate to our important work. Thank you!
