The day was March 24 of 1882, that was the day that Dr. Robert Koch discovered the cause of Tuberculosis. Many advances have occurred since that discovery, but there is still much left to do in order to eradicate this disease on a global level. For example:
- In 2010, 8.8 Million people were diagnosed with TB and 1.4.Million people died of TB.
- TB is among the leading causes of death among women between the ages of 15-44.
- In 2009, close to 10 Million children became orphans because of parent’s TB.
- TB is the main cause of death for patients living with HIV (almost a quarter of these patients).

TBNet maintains its firm commitment of collaborating, and actively participating in the fight against TB on a global scale. This is not only a disease that is treatable, but also preventable. TBNet has been designed to be a useful solution for the control and follow-up of this disease for migrant patients. The program has been able to bridge and promote continuity of hundreds of patients with TB in various countries around the world. These patients and their families now live TB-free. We hope that investment of capital, dedication and effort can translate to eradicating this disease in our generation.
Let today be a day where we remember all the work that has been done and work that still lies ahead.
El día fue el 24 de Marzo de 1882, este fue el día en que el Dr. Robert Koch descubrió la causa de la Tuberculosis. Muchos avances han ocurrido desde ese descubrimiento, pero falta mucho más por hacer para erradicar esta enfermedad a nivel mundial. Por ejemplo:
- En el 2010, 8.8 millones de personas fueron diagnosticadas con TB y 1.4 millones de personas murieron de TB.
- La TB esta entre la mayores causas de mortalidad en mujeres entre las edades de 15 a 44 años.
- En el 2009, aproximadamente 10 millones de niños quedaron huérfanos a causa de TB
- La TB es la principal causa de muerte en aquellos pacientes que viven con el VIH (casi una cuarta parte de esos pacientes).

TBNet se mantiene firme en su compromiso de colaborar y participar activamente en la lucha contra la TB a nivel mundial. Esta es una enfermedad que no solamente es curable, sino que también es prevenible. TBNet ha sido diseñado para ser una solución útil para el control y seguimiento de esta enfermedad en pacientes móviles. El programa ha podido enlazar y promover el seguimiento de cientos de pacientes con TB en varios países a través del mundo. Estos pacientes y sus familias ahora viven sin TB. Esperamos que con la inversión de capital, dedicación, y esmero se pueda erradicar esta enfermedad en esta generación.
