Showing Love to Farmworkers
For Valentine’s Day, let’s show our love to farmworkers. As clinicians, we care about the health and safety of our country’s 1.5 million farmworkers and their families who work tirelessly to bring us Valentine’s Day flowers and put food on our tables -- and they need our support. Will you join us?
In 2014 we responded to the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed revisions to the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) -- the primary regulation protecting workers from pesticide exposure.
Now, the EPA is working to respond to the public comments they received. We welcome a final and stronger WPS by August 18, exactly one year since the close of the public comment period. You can show your love for farmworkers by sending an e-Valentine to EPA urging stronger protections from pesticide exposure. Participate in our Thunderclap campaign to get the EPA’s attention. Here’s how:
- Make sure you're logged into Facebook or Twitter and go to https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/22266-valentine-love-for-farmworkers
- Click on “Support with Facebook” and/or “Support with Twitter.”
- Confirm by clicking “Add My Support.” (You may be asked to authorize the Thunderclap App—it’s safe, so go ahead and do it)
- You’re done!
Farmworkers have waited over 20 years for stronger safeguards to protect their health and safety. On August 18, 2014, MCN submitted our Clinician Sign-On Letter, petition, and technical comments adding more than 17,000 voices to the call for a strengthened WPS. On August 18, 2015, we will look forward to adding our voices in congratulating the EPA on the newly published rule to protect farmworkers. Thank you for showing your love for farmworkers and supporting a strengthened WPS.
